This 90s Hairstyle Is Back To Give Every Millennial Major Nostalgia

First popularised by Leonardo DiCaprio and every single Backstreet Boys member (except maybe Howie) in the 90s, the chin-grazing, cropped bob has seen a revival of late.

Worn by the likes of Julianne Hough, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, the style is back streets back, alright (sorry) – albeit with a middle parted update.

“A middle part will always give vibes of a cool girl, with attitude and a modern confidence,” says Anthony Nader of Sydney’s RAW Anthony Nader salon.

Before you march into your hairdressers clutching a picture of Nick Carter though, be aware you may need to alter the length an inch or so above or below your jawline, depending on your face shape.

“If for example your face is a little fuller around the jaw, you’ll need that length a little longer past the jawline, as this will give the illusion of an oval shape.”

Once you’ve had the chop, the trick to keep it from slipping into full blown boy band territory, Nader says, is to keep it super clean.

“Grunge may have been alive and kicking in the 90s, but you don’t want to look like you’ve been out on an all-nighter. This bob needs to look ‘innocent’ and by this I mean your hair needs to look clean and healthy with blunt ends. Start by shampooing your hair strands more often.”

Styling wise, volumising products are your middle part MVP and be sure to use a comb to get that part sitting poker straight – this isn’t the time for guesswork.

“Opt for volumising sprays as they’re lighter than a mousse or paste. Spray the roots with a dry shampoo to soak up any oil and sort limp and dirty roots in a flash.”
