This might surprise you…
It’s the number one hair washing mistake women make – are you guilty of it?
Shampoo and conditioner are the Rob Kardashian and Brody Jenner of the hair world – seriously overlooked. Sure, you might spend a small fortune on haircuts and styling products, but what you use in the shower is often picked up in the supermarket without a second’s thought. But choose the right products for you and you’ll notice a difference after the very first wash.
How can you tell if your shampoo and conditioner are letting you down? “The signs are crystal clear – your hair will either go oily and limp quicker than normal or go in the completely opposite direction and feel super dry and dehydrated,” says award-winning international hair stylist Anthony Nader of RAW in Sydney’s Surry Hills. “This is when alarm bells should ring and you need to change up your routine.”

So how do you find the perfect products then? First up, ask the experts. “Hairstylists are doctors for your hair and know what’s going to work best on your tresses,” says Nader. “Always ask your hairstylist what’s going to work for your hair best – if they haven’t prescribed products for you already.”
Pick products that address your concerns – hydration, volume or shine, for instance – and as a general rule, stick to clarifying shampoos if you have oily roots. But don’t feel beholden to a specific range – a clarifying shampoo might be just what the doctor ordered for your roots, but its partner conditioner could easily strip your ends of shine, so pair it with a hydrating conditioner to meet all your hair’s needs.

“What I always suggest is having two different variations of shampoo and conditioner in your shower and you alternate between the two,” says Nader. “By doing this your hair strands will have a wake-up call every time you wash your hair, where as when using the same ingredients your hair won’t feel any different – think of it as a mini holiday for your hair that revitalises and restores each strand.”
