Six hair stylists told us the only products you need this summer.
So there’s a lot of hair product out there. Hundreds, capsule no thousands of bottles and brands, lotions, gels, serums, all claiming to do something down right life changing. Products for thin hair, products for coloured hair, and don’t forget the heat protectants, the leave-in moisturisers, the frizz-fighters, the list goes on. And on. And on. It’s exhausting.
So we thought, with summer in full swing, we’d dive into our rolodex and ask the pros to give us advice on the products we need, that actually work.
So clear your cabinets guys, because we’ve called in the big guns. And you’re welcome.
The absolute Rolls Royce of hair treatments is Oribe Signature Moisture Masque – with antioxidant properties and macadamia nut seed oil (to promote high gloss sheen) from the Australian rainforest and not to mention a long list of other ingredients good enough to want to eat, this is what I always recommend for my clients with highly bleached/highlighted hair to replenish the moisture and hydration to bounce back the elasticity to be strong and resilient again.
I also like to recommend that if you like having a product free day, pop a little on your ends all over and let it soak in and rinse out when you shampoo your hair next. It’s the ultimate Summer protect guard.
Another essential is Muk Spa Argan Oil repair treatment – It’s like you’re giving your hair some medial attention and bandaging up the trouble. This oil is super light so don’t worry about this shine enhancing gem weighing even the finest of hair strands down. I recommend only a few drops of oil that, for those that want to condition the hair as the day rolls on. The beauty about it is you can still use your regular styling products as well.
Weightless hair products get extra points in my books as, really who likes to look as though you’ve been caught in a down pour of rain with over dose of heavy products!
“We all love spending time out in the sun, at the beach and in the heat during Summer! Exposure to these elements can make your hair feel dry and brittle, especially if you already have coloured hair. Just like you would moisturise your skin when it feel dry, it is equally important to replenish the moisture in your hair. During Summer, I recommend using a moisture restore mask at least once a week. I love the Wella Enrich Mask, it moisturises your hair leaves it looking healthy and strong. I also use SP Luxe Oil daily! Applying it from mid length to the ends, it nourishes your hair, whilst adding a luminous shine”.
Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil is an amazing product that nourishes, protects and hydrates hair while taming fly aways and giving beautiful shine. You can either use it as a treatment that you can wash out or even better as a styling product in wet hair before you style or air dry. The hair just drinks it up!
The best treatment on the market is Olaplex. It’s reconstructs the hair for before color and they also have a follow up product for home! Coats the hair and prevents further breakage. This is the one and only for colored hair and is a game changer in the market.
During summer months we need to re-moisturize hair after prolonged exposure to the harsh effects of sunlight. For me there is no substitute for an uncomplicated treatment regime that is easy to use. A new product line that is now available in Australia from Stockholm, Sweden, is my pick.
Over night hair repair by SACHAJUAN is a gel product based on pure water, a treatment that takes care of hair while you sleep, adding natural trace elements and minerals to hair. You can always count on the goodness from the ocean and trust the purists from Sweden to come up with the simplest of answers.
It doesn’t stain bed linen and there is no need to rinse out, simply apply to damp or dry hair then have a good nights sleep. It’s designed to build elasticity and strengthen hair while making it manageable, creating shine and reducing frizz.
I use John Frieda Frizz Ease serum which has UV Protectant in it. On beach days, apply on wet hair and wrap into a bun then sit at beach all day and let the heat penetrate the silcone into the hair shaft. If you’re not a fan of serum, a leave-in conditioner will do the same.
Use Redken Diamond Oil as a pre shampoo treatment for the hair! It is LUSH! If you’re going to spend the day at the beach with your hair pulled up and in and out of the water then your hair will love this. Liberally apply Diamond oil to your mid lengths and ends, my hair drinks it up. 5-7 big pumps. Work it through, even comb it with a wide tooth comb and pulled up hair up into a bun. Throughout the day your hair will soak up this hybrid oil that is made with coriander oil, apricot oil and sunflower oil. Once you’re home shampoo and condition as usual and you hair will feel stronger, softer and smoother!
